Meet Our Team

Sho Yoshimoto, DVM, PhD

Co-founder & CEO

After graduating second in his class from Hokkaido University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2017, he earned his Ph.D. in Veterinary Science from the University of Tokyo in 2021. During his doctoral studies and postdoctoral research, he worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on cancer immunotherapy (CAR-T cell therapy). His academic excellence is reflected in multiple JSPS fellowships (DC2, PD), including overseas research fellowships and two early-career research grants. With seven first-author publications and nine international conference presentations (including five oral presentations), his experience highlighted the crucial role of scientific illustrations in communicating complex concepts, leading to the establishment of Graphience. He oversees scientific design across life science disciplines.

Takane Hosoyama, CFA

Co-founder

Following his graduation from Keio University’s Faculty of Law in 2017, he began his career at Goldman Sachs Securities, handling JGB and corporate bond settlements. He later transitioned to an asset management firm as a credit analyst, focusing on food and construction sectors while earning his CFA designation. Since 2023, he has served as Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) at Kyoto University Innovation Capital, strengthening ties with researchers and academic institutions. At Graphience, he manages back-office operations including legal and accounting matters, while fostering collaborative relationships with research institutions.

Amiko Saito

Chief Designer

A graduate of Aichi University of the Arts’ Faculty of Fine Arts and Design in 2016, she spent four years honing her skills as a graphic designer at an advertising agency. Since launching her freelance career in 2020, she has specialized in scientific and veterinary medical illustrations and design. Her portfolio includes over 500 illustrations and designs for academic institutions and companies across Japan, the United States, and Canada, contributing to successful Graphic Abstracts and award-winning presentations at international conferences. At Graphience, she leads all illustration and design projects, working in close collaboration with scientists.

Kodai Watanabe, PhD

Scientific Designer

After earning his Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry from Hokkaido University, Japan in 2020, he joined Toray Industries Inc., where he gained experience bridging research findings with practical applications in advanced industrial materials development. In 2023, he embarked on a new challenge as a postdoctoral researcher at University of California, Santa Barbara, pursuing cutting-edge materials science research. Drawing on his unique perspective spanning academia and industry, he specializes in scientific design especially for chemistry-related projects at Graphience. His mission is to make “the beauty and potential of the molecular world accessible to everyone” thorough creative visualization of scientific research.
